Quality meal after quality meal, The Hunter River Hotel consistently produces mouthwatering dishes to tingle your taste buds. 

With its bright green exterior and warm contemporary interior, you won’t miss this gem of an establishment. 

Admittedly, The Hunter River Hotel used to be my local. I’ve eaten there a lot, at one stage on a weekly basis. To give you an idea of how good the food is, I still, even now living 40 minutes away, make regular trips to the ‘HR’ for affordable, filling and always delicious encounters.

This experience was no different. I dropped in for lunch on a bright, sunlit Tuesday and was greeted by the lovely, smiling staff members. 

I love to try new things, so sought out the specials board for a treat. We put our trust in the waitress who suggested the Atlantic Salmon and Surf ‘n’ Turf, and from the first mouthful we were more than impressed.

Both my friend and I almost inhaled our meals they were that good. I had the Atlantic Salmon, served with chat potatoes, broccolini, juicy prawns and a perfectly executed lemon sauce that created soul-satisfying flavour. 

My companion had the Surf ‘n’ Turf dish that featured a tender scotch fillet, crunchy fried squid and an irresistible creamy garlic prawn sauce. A land and sea inspired dish, the refreshing seafood toppings complimented the generous and sumptuous steak.

Paired with a couple of glasses of champagne and friendly service throughout, our midweek lunch was an absolute delight.

It sometimes surprises me that they can nail every single dish they put out, but it’s obvious that’s why they draw in such loyal customers.

The hotel presents a sports bar, charming outdoor dining and pool area, divine bistro, play area full of kid’s entertainment, and food and beverage specials every day of the week.

I’m not exaggerating when I say this joint is tantalising. You will leave, you’ll remember how good the meal was and somehow it will draw you back for another.
