Milek Engineering specialises in the design, manufacture, automation, maintenance, commissioning, optimisation and repair of electrical control and instrumentation equipment across the mining and industrial sectors. We also design and manufacture our own conveyor protection devices.
Our projects include overland conveyors, substations, section isolators, conveyor starters, lighting distribution systems, stone dust delivery systems and drive testing systems. We provide custom solutions from concept through to commissioning, backed by ongoing operational support.
How long have you been doing business?
Milek Engineering is a locally owned and operated business that was established in 2014.
Our continued growth has seen us expand our workshop and workforce to meet increasing demand while remaining committed to delivering safe, reliable, high-quality solutions across a diverse range of industries.
How many people work for the business?
We currently have 30 people on our team, with recruitment continuing to be a focus this year. Our dedicated teams include management, workshop, engineering, administration and site services.
Describe a typical day at ‘The office’.
A typical day at Milek Engineering’s workshop starts early, with the team rolling in, coffee in hand, ready to get stuck into another day of building quality equipment. After a toolbox talk, the workshop comes to life, with projects moving through assembly, wiring, testing and final fit-out. There’s always plenty of banter and problem-solving along the way, but behind it is a strong focus on doing things properly, supporting each other and delivering to a high standard.
As the day progresses, the team works through challenges, adapts to changing priorities and meets deadlines, ensuring every job is completed with care and attention to detail. By the end of the day, reliable, fully tested equipment leaves the workshop, reflecting the pride our team takes in its workmanship and the quality Milek Engineering is known for.
What are the biggest challenges facing your business?
The biggest challenge in a growing engineering business isn’t the work itself, it’s protecting what made the business successful in the first place. As the company expands, it becomes harder to maintain the same culture, standards and accountability that once happened naturally when the team was smaller.
Growth can also create distance from clients, so it’s important to ensure every client still feels valued, every job still matters, and the business retains its family feel while continuing to grow. It takes constant effort, strong leadership and a clear focus to grow without losing the identity, quality and personal service that built the business.
What are the biggest opportunities for your business right now?
One of the biggest opportunities for Milek isn’t chasing more work, it’s strengthening the foundations so the business can continue to grow. That means refining internal systems, improving workflow from quoting through to delivery, ensuring consistency in quality and execution, and continuing to build a reputation for communication, reliability and customer service.
By focusing on these fundamentals, Milek can continue to grow without compromising quality or its reputation.
