Ask Derek and Sylvia, the directors of Ezy Group, why the business supports so many community organisations and the answer will be the same. They just want to give back where they can.
When the My Hospital Foundation courtesy buggy at Mackay Base Hospital recently needed someone to take over maintenance and repairs, Ezy Group didn’t spend weeks discussing it.
They picked it up that day.
“The people who were looking after it couldn’t maintain it anymore, so after a short discussion to Derek, we jumped at the opportunity.
“It had a breakdown, so we fixed it up, put new batteries and tires in it, made sure it was safe and gave it a fresh sticker job.
“It’s an important service for the hospital. It’s a big car park and a lot of the people using it are already doing it tough, so when they asked if we could help, we jumped straight on it,” said Hayden Bombardieri, General Manager Ezy Group.
As Ezy Group has grown to include mechanical services and sign solutions alongside its vehicle rentals, Hayden said it has also created more opportunities to support local communities.
“As our business has grown, so has our ability to give back to the communities that have supported us every step of the way. Owners and Directors Derek and Sylvia have lived and breathed this region for decades, and their commitment to supporting local communities remains at the heart of everything we do.
“Having the different businesses means we can help in different ways. Sometimes that’s cash sponsorship, sometimes it’s vouchers for fundraising, and sometimes its signage or mechanical work or simply supplying a vehicle. Because we’ve got those businesses, we’re able to help in different ways, and it can make a real difference.”
Hayden said most of the support grows from the connections staff have in the communities where they live and work across Mackay, Moranbah and Emerald.
“My little boy plays for the Sarina juniors and runs around with Ezy on the back of his training shirt. That’s how a lot of it starts. We’ve got staff with kids in local clubs, people connected to community organisations, and if we can help out, we do.”
Over the years that has included supporting organisations such as the My Hospital Foundation and Mackay Community Foundation, along with Star 101.9’s Santa’s Storage Shed, Junior rugby league clubs across Mackay and Moranbah, senior sporting clubs, golf, motocross and mountain biking, as well as many other community groups across the regions where Ezy Group operates.
One organisation Ezy Group has worked closely with for many years is the Mackay Community Foundation. From producing and installing the Foundation’s Honour Wall to donating signage, displays and other in-kind support, the business has continued to lend a hand wherever it’s needed.
“Our signs operations manager, Drew, got to present some of the grants through the Mackay Community Foundation and seeing what that money means to those smaller not-for-profit groups is special.
“It reminds you why it’s worth doing. If something ever happened to one of our families, we’d want to know there were people willing to help them too.
“That’s really what it’s about. We just help people out.”
