KBT Industries is a family owned and operated business local to the Mackay and Isaac region providing expert equipment consulting services. Once you have identified your project requirements, KBT can assist in sourcing, supplying and maintaining all of your equipment hire needs for the duration of your project, taking the stress out of project planning.
How long have you been doing business?
KBT Director, Brent Trenaman, has spent the last fifteen years working and supporting the mining industry and saw firsthand how hard and time consuming it was for businesses to secure the right equipment for their needs. Brent decided that he would be the one to help manage that problem so eighteen months ago alongside his wife Kaitlyn, moving away from purely maintaining equipment to successfully sourcing and supplying equipment to clients in the mining and civil industries around the region.
How many people work for the business?
KBT Industries is a small team of five. Brent and Kaitlyn sourcing and supplying with the rest of the team responsible for maintaining and servicing the equipment.

No day is typical!
What’s the best thing about the business?
The best thing about KBT is that it is a service that no one else has really tapped into.
Clients identify their project or day-to-day requirements and KBT can assist in sourcing, supplying and maintaining all equipment for the duration of the project or just for a portion of time. This is the perfect project streamline service. There has been a lot of great feedback from clients and those that have been referred.
Clients also appreciate that they are billed one invoice per month!
What are the biggest challenges facing your business?
Providing a service that is fairly unique also has its challenges as we have to educate people about what an equipment hire specialist actually is – someone reducing time and money in finding multiple pieces of equipment.
What is the biggest opportunity for your business right now?
Being a new company, our focus right now is on building our client base and establishing our reputation as the leading equipment consulting service in the Bowen Basin.

What is the business most proud of?
Although KBT do have a fleet of light vehicles and other smaller pieces of equipment for direct hire, they pride themselves on being able to successfully complete price comparisons as they work with local contacts to source what clients need meeting all requirements including budget and availability.
We are also very proud of our customer focus. We provide one consistent contact that a client can directly contact about any issues or if they have any questions, and we are always available.
Community or other causes close to its heart and values?
As a business KBT are proud to be able support community organisations such as BMA CQ Rescue and sporting clubs like Country United Football Club, Mackay Surf Lifesaving Club and Claddagh School of Irish Dance. Brent and Kaitlyn love that a business they have grown themselves can give back to the local community.
