iScope is guided by the motto of “Eliminate the Unknown”, aiming to define risk, safety, costs and time frames to high-quality standards through our specialised services.
We offer a range of services including welding supervision, welder training and testing, welding inspections, systems management, auditing, technical support, structural repair procedure design and development, componentry scopes of work, 3D scanning and drafting, on-site structural repair management and supervision, structural condition auditing, planning for major shutdowns, off-site structural componentry repair management, new build management, and monitoring/reporting of critical structural components and machinery.
How long have you been doing business?
iScope was acquired in 2020; prior to that, Peter Neilsen established the business in 2017.
How many people work for the business?
Currently, there are five employees with a plan to expand. Our team comprises of highly esteemed welding inspectors and specialists – myself, Clancy, Trav, and Ethan. Additionally, our administrative staff includes Rach, with a new member set to join in July.
Describe a typical day at ‘The office’.
No two days are alike at our workplace. Tasks may involve on-site supervising, scoping repairs, visiting workshops to monitor progress, or conducting inspections and qualifying welders in the workshop.
What’s the best thing about the business?
Our ability to enhance the quality of structural repairs conducted on various components within the industry distinguishes us. We are the leading welding training provider in the Bowen Basin, recognised for our unparalleled hands-on approach and exceptional practical expertise. Being able to positively impact these areas within the industry is extremely rewarding.
The worst thing?
One of the biggest challenges is shifting perspectives on the need for greater welding quality and structural repairs being performed in the field and within workshops.
What are the biggest challenges facing your business?
Recruiting individuals possessing the appropriate skills and a genuine passion for our industry remains a significant challenge for us.
What is the biggest opportunity for your business right now?
We recently secured a three-year contract with DBCT and are in talks to finalise long-term umbrella agreements with numerous mining companies, presenting state and national opportunities for growth.
What is the business most proud of?
We take immense pride in our dedicated employees who have been pivotal in driving the growth and establishing a reputable and trusted name for iScope.
Community or other causes close to its heart and values?
Our commitment to causes dear to us is evident each year through our sponsorship of the Postie Bike Safari which benefits Childhood Cancer Support in North Queensland. Additionally, we proudly support the Magpies Junior Rugby League and various local events annually.
