The NSW Minerals Council couldn’t be more spot on when they say that the number one thing that makes our industry world-class is its people. Especially the people in the Hunter. Bringing home three out of five awards, what more proof do you need that the Hunter is full of amazing talent?

How about the 39 apprentices from NSW and QLD that put their trade training to the test when they competed at the Glencore Interstate Skills Competition. The competition not only showcases the amazing talents of up coming apprentices but is also about providing ongoing support for the apprentices to give them the best possible chance of succeeding in their chosen fields.

Sometimes achievements are not about what you do for yourself but what you do for others. Take Troy Cameron. This operator from HVO battled heat, freezing nights and a cyclone to trek 440km through the Simpson Desert to raise funds for the domestic violence shelter Jenny’s Place. While Troy may have struggled for 20 days, he recognises that the women who turn to Jenny’s Place struggle for years or their entire lives because of domestic violence.

Then there’s Ryan Gilroy who after years of hard work and never giving up on a dream recently raced in the Bathurst 1000. While he ticked that goal off his bucket list, he’s already working on the next one, which is crossing the finish line in first place.
