For just the second time in CQ Rescue’s history, a naming rights partnership has been granted with BHP Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA).
BMA is the founding sponsor of the rescue helicopter service and has now stepped up to become the naming rights partner ensuring the service stays in the air helping anyone who needs it wherever they are in far north Queensland and beyond.
CQ Rescue has been saving lives since 1996, rescuing, transferring, retrieving and winching more than 12,000 people across its 28-year history. The service is called in to assist people on what could be the worst day of their lives.
BMA CQ Rescue CEO Tim Healee said they have come a long way in 28 years and they couldn’t have assisted the thousands of people they have without the support of their valued partners.
“BMA has been a cornerstone of our support for many years, and this new chapter as our naming rights partner is a testament to the strength and depth of our relationship. This announcement marks a significant milestone in our shared commitment to saving lives and to serving the entire region with some of the best aeromedical service available.”
BMA CQ Rescue is based in Mackay with two Bell 412 helicopters – one primary and a backup.
On board the aircraft is a pilot, air crewman, rescue crewmen, doctor, paramedic and necessary medical, rescue and aviation equipment.
The predominant service region for BMA CQ Rescue is regions between Townsville and St Lawrence, an area that stretches west of the Galilee Basin and includes most of the Bowen Basin and east to the Whitsunday Islands and the Great Barrier Reef.
That region includes a large portion of Queensland’s mine sites.
BMA has five mines in Queensland throughout the Bowen Basin including Broadmeadow, Caval Ridge, Goonyella Riverside, Peak Downs and Saraji.
BMA Asset President Adam Lancey said BMA is privileged to become the naming rights partner of the BMA CQ Rescue Helicopter after proudly supporting the service for almost three decades.
“With our shared commitment to safety and ensuring our people return home to their loved ones, this is a fantastic opportunity to come together and continue our support of the local communities where we live and work.
“The health and safety of our people is our first priority, however, when the unthinkable occurs at home or at work, it’s critical services such as the BMA CQ Rescue Helicopter that are often the first to respond.”
Lisa Martin, the BMA CQ Rescue General Manager has also welcomed the new partnership.
“BMA’s unwavering support has stood the test of time and has been instrumental in advancing our mission and making a positive impact in our community.”
