Who said there is nothing to do up here in the mining regions! I recently had the pleasure of joining an Art Trail and Foodies Tour in the picturesque Pioneer Valley, just west of Mackay. Organised by Artist Connect Inc., this experience made for a memorable day, filled with artistic exploration, culinary delights, and a sense of community that made the day just so damn fun.

The tour began with a visit to talented local artists and creatives, offering a unique glimpse into their worlds. We participated in a hands-on clay sculpture activity that was both engaging and wasn’t too tricky for someone like me, who doesn’t consider themselves very creative. It was a joy to see everyone’s creations come to life.

Lunch was a highlight, hosted at The Gift Shed Cafe & Health Food in Finch Hatton. The meal featured locally sourced ingredients, including Percy Island goat meat, which was prepared into a mouth-watering goat curry and delicious goat sausages. A glass of bubbles accompanied the meal and we finished with honestly the best dessert I have ever had in my life!

Mingle Events Co. also deserves praise for their well-organised and friendly tour. Maria, our tour guide, felt like a lifelong friend by the end of the day, ensuring everyone felt welcomed and engaged.

One of my favourite aspects of the tour was the laid-back atmosphere. The bus was even equipped with a fridge, allowing us to bring our own bubbles and top up along the way, adding even more festivity to the experience.
