Over the Easter long weekend, Rockhampton became the epicentre of Australia’s street machine scene with the fourth edition of the Rare Spares Rockynats. This annual spectacle drew a record crowd of 57,000 spectators and over 1,640 entrants, making it Queensland’s largest car and bike show.

Rockynats 2024 unfolded across three dynamic precincts, each offering its own unique thrill. From legal drag racing on the streets, to the Pro Burnout series by the river, to the city’s biggest street parade, Rockynats delivered an action-packed weekend that went beyond a traditional sporting event. It brought the community together, united by a passion for motorsports and the sheer beauty of classic and contemporary street machines.

The competition was fierce with the Street Drags being a standout attraction. Nearly 800 pairings battled it out on the Quay Street eighth-mile track, with the unprepped surface challenging seasoned and amateur racers alike. Paul Butler in his Nissan SR20-powered Nana Gemini clinched the title in the headlining Pro Street Class for the second year, demonstrating skill and strategy in the face of intense competition.

Other notable winners included Adam Kruger, who took home the Rockynats Champion trophy, and participants in the Burnout competitions such as Warren Gersekowski who won first place in the Burnout Pro category with his vehicle “1TUFHG”. Cody Hunt set a new record in the dyno challenge, pushing his R8 Clubsport wagon to an astonishing 1852hp at the hubs. Meanwhile, the pad belonged to Wal Gersekowski in his impressive ITUFHG ute, a crowd favourite.

But Rockynats is more than just a competition, it’s a cultural festival. The RockabillyNats Pinup Competition, live music including the Choir Boys, stunt shows, and a variety of displays added to the festival atmosphere, making it a holistic experience for families and enthusiasts alike.

Looking ahead, Rockynats 2025 promises to be even more spectacular. Scheduled during the Easter school holidays from April 4 to 6, the event is set to return with all its popular attractions and perhaps even more surprises.
