Tell us about the business.

My name is Tim Boyd, and I’m a Business Development Manager at DGI Trading, based in Queensland.

DGI Trading recycles OEM machinery and components for a second life, therefore helping to minimise our customers’ carbon footprint.

We provide alternative supply solutions to mining operators for their late model, production-critical mining equipment and component requirements – ultimately helping reduce their ongoing carbon emissions.

How long have you been doing business?

DGI has moved into its 15th year of operation in 2023. Our business development team has 145 years collective experience in the industry. Personally, I’ve been working in the heavy equipment sector for 30 years.

Describe a typical day at ‘The office’.

We are an international operation – our global supply network allows us to acquire hard-to-find parts and machinery from the most remote locations in the world. DGI services customers in over 60 countries – many of those right here in Queensland.

Our purpose-built facility in Kempsey, New South Wales, is our central point for product processing, warehousing and dispatch. We constantly have stock arriving from around the world which our acquisition managers have purchased, so our workshop and logistics teams are focused on inspecting stock, undertaking necessary works, and preparing and warehousing inventory for resale.

What’s the best thing about the business?

Being able to support our customers’ operations with low cost and environmentally friendly alternative solutions to their ongoing maintenance requirements. In doing this, we’ve been able to build up long-term business relationships throughout the world that have gone on to become friendships.

What is the biggest opportunity for your business right now?

The biggest opportunity I see right now is our ability to help our customers meet their renewable targets by providing quality recycled machinery and components.

For example, in the latest Caterpillar D10T we’ve dismantled, we have remarketed 88% of this machine into the mining equipment market for reuse. With the chassis currently still available, should this be purchased, would push its overall reusability up to 96%.

Our ability to recycle and remarket late model equipment and components has a significant impact on the overall emission reduction of the mining operator supply chain, and we are continuing to refine our processes and facilities to further our carbon reduction support for our customers in 2023.

What is the business most proud of?

I know I speak on behalf of our entire team in saying that it’s the relationship piece. We have developed long-term business relationships all around the world, and these have been integral to our ability to provide our customers with the solutions we continue to.

Community or other causes close to its heart and values?

DGI supports communities across the world. Much like many of QLD’s mining regions, the Macleay and Hastings Valleys where we are headquartered are small places, focused on the same sense of community and supporting each other.

We sponsor various local surf clubs and sporting teams, particularly those where our children participate. We believe in actively supporting the communities in which we operate.

DGI Trading has an ongoing partnership with Brett Comiskey and the Comiskey Offroad Racing Team, with whom we have a great relationship. We’ve sponsored CMS Racing for several years now, and love to watch and support his endeavors as I know many of those in our industry do!

Any employees that deserve a shout out?

As I’m working remotely in Queensland, I’m proud of the entire DGI Trading team and our ability to consistently deliver solutions to our customers’ operational requirements, often in the most remote locations in the world.
