The Great Cattle Dog Muster will be held in Muswellbrook on September 9th to 11th. The three-day event is the first of its kind in Australia and is expected to draw visitors from across the region, around Australia, and from overseas.
The festival is being staged by the Muswellbrook Chamber of Commerce & Industry and will have a combination of activities that cater for the serious cattle dog enthusiast, the pet cattle dog owner, and the general public.
With the Upper Hunter being the birthplace of the Blue Heeler, this makes the region an ideal location to host this premier event.
A highlight of the festival will be the Community Family Fun Day held on Saturday 10th at Muswellbrook Showground. With free entry and packed full of dog related and non-dog related activities for all to enjoy, it’s expected to attract a large number of visitors.
There will be a cattle dog history exhibit, cattle dog demonstrations and presentations, live country music, market stalls and the Upper Hunter Showcase – where the best of our region’s food, wine and produce will be on display.
There’s also plenty for the kids with jumping castles, slides, face painting, petting zoo and rides. Bluey & Bingo will be making a special guest appearance, bookings are essential so make sure you sign up quick for a chance to meet the beloved children’s characters.
But it’s the true blue cattle dogs who will be the real stars of the event. Two championship shows, obedience trials and trick dog are just a few of the events that will be held over the 3 days, showcasing the best of the Australian cattle dog.
Wayne Toms from Muswellbrook Chamber of Commerce & Industry said that the event would not be possible without all the sponsors who have come onboard to support it.
“We have been fortunate to have many sponsors show their support for the event and in particular I would like to thank our local mining industry for getting behind it. BHP Mt Arthur, MACH Energy Mount Pleasant Operation, DK Heavy Plant Services, Bengalla, BHP Local Buying Foundation, Malabar, AGL and Mangoola Open Cut are just a few of the companies that have helped make this event happen.
“It is hoped the event will become an annual signature event for Muswellbrook and the region. We encourage everyone in the community to come along and enjoy themselves at The Great Cattle Dog Muster.”
