My husband loves golf, he just never has time to play it. In fact, it’s been so long since his golf shoes came out of the shed I’m fairly certain the spiders now have squatters’ rights. So when I heard about a new indoor golf simulator that had opened in Singleton, I knew exactly who I was taking along to test it. What I didn’t expect was to enjoy it so much myself.
Golf Hub Singleton is the creation of Kane Birleson and Andy Fullarton and it started with a golf simulator in Andy’s garage.
“We used to play at Andy’s place on a Friday and thought, why not bring something like this to Singleton? There’s not much to do in town and nothing like it here, so we thought we’d open one up and see what the community thinks,” said Kane.
They started the build in December 2025 and opened in January, creating Singleton’s first 24/7 indoor golf simulator studio.
For my husband, the appeal was obvious. He could play a round without losing half a day, tee off at courses he’ll probably never play in real life and obsess over the data from every shot. Basically, golfer heaven.
But it’s definitely not just for serious golfers.
“We’ve had kids as young as two with their parents. Singleton High School came through for their sports program and we had 16 kids using the four bays. Anyone can have a go.”
For serious golfers, ProTee VX technology uses high-speed cameras to track everything from club and ball speed to spin, launch angle, swing path and where the ball impacts the club face.
There are thousands of courses, from famous ones such as Pebble Beach and Augusta to fantasy courses, plus you can practise on the range.
“You can knock out 18 holes in an hour if you’re on your own, and if you’re a member you’ve got 24-hour access,” explained Kane.
“You can finish a shift and swing in on the way home even if that’s at two in the morning. And it doesn’t matter if it’s raining or stinking hot, you can play whatever the weather.”
Casual players can book a bay by the hour, while the whole venue can be booked for birthdays, groups of mates, corporate and team events. Golf Hub can also take its simulator setup on the road for larger events.
I first came across Kane and Andy at the NSW Mining Health, Safety and Environment Conference, where they were using some of their setup to help raise money for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service.
At the time I was far too embarrassed to have a go in public. My previous golfing experience was limited to tagging along with my husband a handful of times, mostly flagging down the drinks buggy and asking how long until we get to the 19th hole. Even in the relative privacy of Golf Hub, I wasn’t particularly keen to have a hit.
Then I had one.
There is something ridiculously satisfying about that thwack when you actually connect with the ball properly. With a few simple instructions from Kane – and a lot of unnecessary advice from my husband – I was hitting them surprisingly well pretty quickly. Thankfully, there was no need to go searching through the rough for the ones that weren’t so good.
Whether you’re working on your swing, squeezing in a round when the weather is terrible, looking for something different to do with mates or, like me, discovering that hitting a golf ball is considerably more fun than watching someone else do it, Golf Hub is worth a thwack.
