Tell us about the business.

Truflo Pumps is a family-owned and operated Australian business that specialises in the design and manufacture of dewatering systems for the mining, infrastructure, quarrying and tunnelling sectors.

How long have you been doing business?

We started as Bathurst Irrigation in 1990, concentrating on the agricultural sector. When Australia’s mining boom emerged, we saw the industry needed robust, reliable pumping systems – that’s when Truflo Pumps was born.

Initially, we partnered with international suppliers, but supply chain uncertainties led us to ask a game-changing question – why not design and manufacture our own pumps, built specifically for Australia’s harsh conditions? We knew that if we designed pumps that could survive Australia’s mining environments, they would excel anywhere in the world.

So, we’ve had over 35 years of working with pumps in one form or another.

How many people work for the business?

From admin right through to engineers and our workshops we have around 80 team members Australia wide.

Describe a typical day at ‘The office’.

The fact that we design and manufacture bespoke solutions means there probably isn’t a typical day.

On any given day, our BDMs could be out on a mine site commissioning a pump-set or at their desk working on quotes.

Our design engineers will be working on tailored designs, and in our workshop it’s all about fabrication, turning designs into reality and getting them out to clients as quickly as possible.

We also carry out repairs and service, from minor fixes through to complete refurbishments.

Then there’s the parts department – they’re always busy dispatching everything from nuts and bolts to full wet-ends.

What are the biggest challenges facing your business?

As we grow, space is at a premium. The Qld team will be moving to new purpose-built premises in the Coolum Industrial Estate early 2026, nearly doubling their workshop space. This means we can grow the workshop team and provide faster turnaround times for our clients.

What are the biggest opportunities for your business right now?

Truflo Pumps is recognised right around the world, and we are getting real traction in places like PNG, the Philippines, South America, India and Africa. We’re doing more in underground mining and growing in the quarry sector.

We have off-the-shelf wet-ends and pump-sets, but the fact that we can tailor dewatering systems for clients really sets us apart.

What is the business most proud of?

The quality of our product and our innovation. We’re always looking to improve our pumps and service, and all of the Truflo Pumps’ team members have a hand in this.

We are especially proud of our AquaBoss Asset Protection Controller. Developed in-house over three years of intensive R&D, it maintains ideal pump operating conditions, minimises downtime and reduces wear and tear – ultimately saving sites money.

Community or other causes close to its heart and values?

Every year, our Truflo Pumps’ family comes together to raise funds and awareness for Motor Neurone Disease (MND). After losing one of our Directors to MND several years ago, we made it our mission to honour his legacy by supporting those living with MND and their families, while helping fund vital research.

Each year, our team takes part in the Ice Bucket Challenge. It’s a highlight of our calendar – bringing our people together for a cause that truly matters.

We’re also proud supporters of Rapid Relief Team, an organisation that provides practical care and support to communities in crisis.

Any employees that deserve a shout out?

It’s impossible to single out one person because Truflo Pumps is built on teamwork. Every person contributes, making the business what it is today. At Truflo Pumps we work hard, back each other, and celebrate the wins together.
