Tell us about the business.
TK Distributors is an Australian-owned company that has served the Australasian market for nearly two decades. We specialise in supplying high-quality electrical equipment designed for extreme environments, supporting industries such as mining, oil and gas, transport, renewables and defence. Our offerings include cabling, DC Contactors and industrial switchgear, and specialist electrical devices
How long have you been doing business?
Established in 2007, the owners identified a need for providing reliable solutions for industries requiring robust electrical components. Initially working from home and later a business incubator, the family business expanded to its current location in Warabrook, NSW, initially with one warehouse and office space, now utilising three such spaces, as well as opening in Western Australia and holding a warehouse in Mackay QLD. These locations enable us to efficiently serve customers across remote sites, with stock rotation systems in place for our loyal customer base.
How many people work for the business?
TK Distributors is a lean machine of around fifteen hard working team members who treat the business and our customers as their own. Our dedicated team share a commitment to minimising downtime and providing exceptional customer service. Whether in the warehouse, sales, admin, or accounts, every team member understands that our priority is to meet our customers’ needs promptly and efficiently.
Describe a typical day at ‘The office’.
The business handles tasks such as order processing, technical support for clients and facilitating maintenance schedules and overhauls for critical components like DC contactors. Our daily operations emphasise minimising downtime for clients by offering genuine parts and reliable service.
What’s the best thing about the business?
TK Distributors prides itself on its commitment to quality and customer satisfaction. Our direct partnerships with manufacturers and specialised product knowledge set us apart, ensuring clients receive reliable solutions. Working with our customers to solve their downtime issues keeps us motivated.
The worst thing?
Operating in industries prone to downtime, TK Distributors faces high stakes in ensuring timely delivery and reliability, which can be a challenging pressure point.
What are the biggest challenges facing your business?
A growing concern in our industry is the rise of non-genuine products, particularly in the overhaul of Hubbell DC Contactors. These inferior components increase downtime, reduce machinery lifespan, and may pose safety risks for employees. To address this, we travelled to the USA for specialised training by Hubbell in contactor overhauls, deeming TK Distributors the only authorised overhauler for our DC Contactor range. This ensures that our customers receive only genuine aftermarket parts during overhauls. We now perform these overhauls across all three warehouse locations and maintain safety stock for our customers, allowing for seamless swaps when contactors require servicing.
What is the biggest opportunity for your business right now?
Expanding into more specialised sectors like renewable energy, leveraging our expertise in reliable electrical solutions, and strengthening our presence in high-demand industries are key opportunities.
What is the business most proud of?
TK Distributors is proud of where we started and how hard our tight knit team have worked to gain our reputation as a trusted supplier of genuine, high-quality products along with our ability to build lasting relationships with clients by delivering under pressure.
Community or other causes close to its heart and values?
The company partners with the Mai-Wel Group, supporting individuals with disabilities and broader community goals, reflecting our commitment to social responsibility. Along with this, we actively sponsor and support charities close to our heart such as Camp Quality, Motor Neurone Disease NSW, Multiple Sclerosis NSW, and Sleapy’s Foundation.
