Tell us about the business.
TACTech Mine Planning is a locally owned mining engineering, blasting and geoscience consultancy based in the Hunter Valley, NSW and QLD regions. Our focus is on delivering practical, high quality technical solutions that work in real operating environments. TACTech was built on a simple philosophy: keep plans practical, communicate them clearly, and deliver value through strong collaboration and expertise.
How long have you been doing business?
Founded in 2021, this month marks a significant milestone as we proudly celebrate five years of growth and achievements in operations.
How many people work for the business?
Our team currently comprises of 11 highly skilled professionals with expertise spanning operational to executive levels, including Mining Engineers, Geologists, and Blasting Engineering specialists.
Describe a typical day at ‘The office’.
A typical day at TACTech looks different for each team member. Most of our people work onsite, side by side with client technical services teams delivering practical mine planning, design, scheduling, and technical support. Others may be based in the office or working remotely, collaborating with clients and colleagues to develop solutions, review plans, and provide expert advice. No two days are the same, but the common theme is close collaboration, hands‑on problem solving, and a strong focus on delivering high‑quality outcomes.
What are the biggest challenges facing your business?
Recruitment in our technical streams is a challenge. It’s a match made in heaven when we find the right technical people. We are looking for technical experts who want to minimise meetings and maximise time spent on meaningful technical work.
What are the biggest opportunities for your business right now?
Our biggest opportunity lies in mentoring and coaching the next generation of technical engineers and geologists entering the industry. Given the ongoing skills shortage, it is critical that new starters receive high‑quality training and support to fast‑track their development. This ensures our mining operations can stay ahead of workload demands and maintain technical excellence.
What is the business most proud of?
We are most proud of delivering consistently high‑quality solutions and trusted expertise to our clients, while building a workplace culture where people genuinely enjoy what they do. We place strong emphasis on enabling our team to grow professionally, work in their areas of passion, and act as technical leaders who coach and mentor others along their journey. This focus on both client outcomes and people development has created a culture where excellence comes naturally because our people love what they do, and they do it well.
Community or other causes close to its heart and values?
As a small locally based business we take great pride in supporting our local communities, along with the passions of our team members and their families. Our support spans sporting organisations, education initiatives, industry networks, and important health‑focused causes. We actively contribute through sponsorships and involvement with organisations including Singleton Strikers, Singleton and Maitland Rugby Union, Maitland Cricket Club, Singleton Netball representative teams, WIMNET functions, AusIMM student chapters, Movember, and the Cancer Council. We have also created a casual network meet up called the “Social Pit Stop” with the aim of facilitating a space for likeminded professionals to catch up twice a year.
Any employees that deserve a shout out?
A huge shout‑out to our entire team, who bring their best every single day. Special mention goes to Emily Mitchell, our Business Manager, whose support has helped us regain some balance and enjoy life outside of TACTech.
