Tell us about the business.
M&P Services began life as M&P Autos in 1986 and remains a locally owned and operated business. We have evolved into the largest manufacturer of portable buildings in the Central and North Queensland regions, delivering to all Australian states and overseas to PNG and New Caledonia. We have adapted and evolved in line with changing market conditions brought on by the ebb and flow of the economy and sector requirements.
Along with standard modular and transportable buildings for both hire and sales, our company has a unique range that is designed to be superior within the marketplace. Mobile crib rooms, full solar mobile toilets, self-weighted (engineered) buildings, combo tm units, off grid options, tie-down solutions and many more.
How many people work for the business?
We have an amazing team comprising of approximately fifty dedicated people. From our long-term management to our operations and tradespersons we are all committed to delivering the best possible product to the market. Being a family owned and operated business those values are instilled across the board.
What are the biggest challenges facing your business?
Navigating the business through the peaks and troughs of the mining cycles and adjusting to a market the requires change and innovation. The foresight and planning for these challenges requires a strong team unity and we proudly have that. Sensible fiscal management and strong balance sheet management have also been cornerstones to our success.
What are the biggest opportunities for your business right now?
Continuous organic expansion of the transportable building manufacturing division. Ensuring we are keeping up with the technological advances in the industry with lean manufacturing techniques.
While the business was predominantly set up to service large-scale operations such as mining and construction projects, in more recent years we have expanded into rural and tourism markets with accommodation development in the pipeline. Our mobile (non-fixed infrastructure) bespoke solutions continue to be market leading solutions for all markets and our prefabricated and transportable buildings offer the flexibility to easily modify, relocate or sell when the requirements change.
What is the business most proud of?
Revolutionising the experience of working, training, learning and living in remote locations is at the forefront of business development for M&P Services. As a solutions based transportable building manufacturing company we brought our signature ‘Mobile Crib Rooms’ into the market eighteen years ago and we recently secured a contract for our 275th Mobile Unit.
Community or other causes close to its heart and values?
In 2016, we launched our inaugural annual M&P Services & Key Solutions Charity Golf Day to aid those in need in our region and the results have been overwhelming. From the get-go, we received so much support and we thank everyone who has ever sponsored, played or supported this amazing local event in some way. To date we have raised more than $274,000 with 100% of those funds donated to local charities.
Our worthy beneficiaries of choice are Trudy Crowley Foundation, Australian Street Aid Project, Ronald McDonald House Charities, Wildlife Rehabilitation Qld, Mackay Cutters Change the Game, RACQ CQ Rescue, Mackay Community Visitors Association, Kidney Support Network, Mackay Hospital Foundation, Surf Lifesaving Mackay, Mackay Netball Association and Community Accommodation Support Network.
