Supplier Insider @ The Coalface

Tell us about the business.

GFM Civil is a leading provider of civil works, plant hire, earthmoving, mining services and land development solutions. Based in Queensland, we’ve built a strong reputation for delivering high-quality results across a range of infrastructure, mining and agricultural projects.

How long have you been doing business?

GFM Civil has been operating under its current name for four years. While the name might be relatively new, the experience behind it runs deep. The business has evolved and rebranded to focus more directly on civil construction and earthworks, building on years of industry knowledge and expertise.

How many people work for the business?

We currently have a dedicated team of 15, and we’re always on the lookout for the right people to help grow our crew.

Describe a typical day at ‘The office’.

No two days are the same at GFM Civil. Our work is constantly shifting depending on the projects we have on the go – from civil construction and large-scale earthworks to land levelling and rehabilitation. We take pride in keeping our sites tidy and efficient, with a strong focus on safety and keeping both our team and machinery running smoothly.

What’s the best thing about the business?

The best part about GFM Civil is that we’re a family-owned and operated business. That culture flows through the team – everyone pitches in and goes above and beyond to keep things running seamlessly.

What are the biggest challenges facing your business?

One of our biggest challenges is keeping our machinery in top condition. With a fleet that includes scrapers, tractors with laser buckets, excavators, dump trucks, water carts and compactors, it takes a lot of effort behind the scenes. Our mechanics work tirelessly to keep everything operating at full capacity.

What is the biggest opportunity for your business right now?

We’re in a strong position for growth, with plans to expand both our team and fleet. We’ve got two new Caterpillar 657 scrapers arriving in the coming months, which will give us even more capacity to take on large-scale earthworks projects.

What is the business most proud of?

We’re proud of our commitment to delivering high-quality work across every project, big or small. Attention to detail, efficiency, and exceeding client expectations are at the heart of what we do. Just as importantly, we take safety seriously, it’s a core part of our culture. We prioritise the wellbeing of our team and ensure that every job is carried out to the highest safety standards, so everyone goes home safe at the end of the day.

Any employees that deserve a shout out?

Every member of the team plays an important role, and we appreciate all their hard work. A special shout-out goes to our maintenance department – they’re the backbone of our operation, keeping the fleet running day in, day out.
