Netball in Singleton has always been powered by passionate volunteers, but this season the community has even more reason to celebrate thanks to support from Hunter Valley Operations (HVO).

Through the HVO Community Grants Program, Netball Singleton has received funding for accreditation courses for coaches and umpires, along with two new marquees to keep players, officials and families sun‑safe on game days. It’s a boost that strengthens the club’s capacity at every level – from grassroots juniors to representative pathways.

HVO Environment and Community Officer Nic McLaughlin said supporting local sport is an important part of the company’s commitment to the region.

“This partnership is a real highlight in our community work,” Nic said.

“Netball is such a big part of life in Singleton and helping the club build skills and provide a safer, more comfortable environment benefits everyone involved.”

The new equipment has already made a difference courtside, with the marquees offering much‑needed shade during long Saturdays and the training support helping volunteers step confidently into coaching and umpiring roles.

For Sharon Power, President of the Singleton Netball Association (SNA), the support couldn’t be more meaningful.

Sharon has been part of the club since arriving in Singleton in 1989, dedicating more than 20 years to coaching, umpiring and helping the sport grow – all while raising three daughters and serving as a foster carer. She said the grant is a welcome investment in a club built on community spirit.

“We’re incredibly grateful for HVO’s support,” Sharon said.

“The new marquee and equipment make a huge difference on game days, and helping our coaches and umpires access training really strengthens the whole association.”

With more families joining the sport each year, the partnership is helping SNA keep pace with demand while continuing to offer a safe, inclusive and well‑supported environment for players of all ages.

HVO’s Community Grants Program supports local organisations across the Hunter with funding for projects that build capacity, strengthen community connections and improve wellbeing.

Round 1 for 2026 opens in April, and local groups are encouraged to apply.
