RESTORE YOUR MANA

Airlie @ The Coalface

After returning from Germany with a jet lag hangover that could rival the worst of them, it was time for me to experience some major R&R. Airlie Beach seemed like the perfect escape, and thanks to a shout-out on Facebook, I found myself headed to Mana Skin Body & Soul.

Mana Skin Body & Soul is nestled under The Boathouse Apartments and conveniently next to the Airlie Beach Markets.

Not being a regular spa-goer, I had no idea what to book. Eventually, I dragged my husband along for one of the Mana couple’s journey packages called the Mana Couples Retreat.

The package promised to melt away our stress with a warm stone foot ritual, volcanic placement stones warming our backs, a full body massage and a hydrating spa facial that included a blissful hair and scalp treatment. It sounded heavenly and off I went with my very hungover husband in tow.

We were greeted by the wonderful Nat and Michelle, who spent the next 120 minutes looking after us, even fussing over my sore-headed husband! The location was stunning with views over the Port of Airlie and the setup made the experience felt like a meditation class combined with a massage and relaxing pampering.

Michelle’s calming voice guided us through the process, making it a soothing and immersive experience. The standout treatment was the blissful hair and scalp massage. It was as if Michelle had magic fingers that knew exactly how to release all the tension from my head and neck. The gentle pressure and rhythmic movements not only felt incredible but also seemed to clear my mind completely.

It was magical, apart from the distraction of my husband’s occasional snoring!

Once we were thoroughly lathered, kneaded and relaxed into oblivion, we floated out to the lounge to enjoy complimentary bubbles and chocolates while gazing at the beautiful Port of Airlie.

After our spa session we wandered around the Airlie Beach markets, sampling local gin and vodka, buying a book from a local Airlie author (Awakening by Nigel Gleeson), and settling in for the afternoon on The Boathouse deck. It was the perfect way to end a well-spent morning.

Mana Skin Body & Soul offers a variety of other amazing packages, including high tea pampering, grazing platters and tailored packages for groups and individuals.

I had a great chat with the founder and CEO, Jess, who shared her inspiration for Mana. Having travelled the world and worked in various areas of massage, health and beauty, she aimed to combine health, skincare, self-care and luxury. Returning to Airlie Beach after years on Hayman Island she brought her vision to life in this perfect slice of paradise.

One package that caught my eye was the Float Therapy experience. It involves lying in a pool filled with 400kg of Epsom salts, with water perfectly heated to your external body temperature. You quickly enter a deep state of theta relaxation, a meditative state that promotes optimal healing, while reducing stress and anxiety. I will definitely book this next time, especially with packages under $200 for a float and massage combination.

Our couple’s journey was $325 per person, and it was money well spent. From walking into the spa by the sparkling ocean to the staff’s dedication to providing a unique experience, it was amazing.

Next time you’re in Airlie Beach, I highly recommend a visit to Mana Skin Body & Soul. Maybe take your daughter, your best friend, or your husband, as long as he doesn’t snore!
