This month we celebrated R U OK? Day, a national day dedicated to start a conversation, inspire and empower everyone to meaningfully connect with the people around them, and to encourage workplaces to build a culture where everyone feels supported and safe. From team BBQs to cupcakes and meaningful conversations, check out how businesses in our local mining industry took part in R U OK? Day 2021.

Australian Mining Equipment’s (AME) COVID Safe Hexham Workshop were shouted lunch and a talk by NSW General Manager Jamie Nowland on the importance on recognising the signs, and checking in with your fellow workmates.

Fenner Dunlop’s Hunter Valley team enjoyed an R U OK? BBQ and information session at 3am before heading out to site.

The team from Mader NSW met for morning tea with warm conversations and a presentation on how to ask people if they are okay.

Morgan Engineering Director, Chelsea Morgan-Whitaker donned an R U OK? apron and made cupcakes for the team with the help of her sons Darcy and Elliott – we’ve heard the cupcakes were a hit!

CRAM’s Hunter team had a toolbox talk on R U OK? Day to discuss mental health safety in the workplace, the methods of starting a conversation around R U OK and how to identify a person that may need someone to check-in. Afterwards the team caught up for a nice lunch.

On R U OK? Day Tomago PDC teams on day and arvo shift took a moment to have a laugh, talk about mental well-being and have some yummy food. The team also had quite a few honest and raw conversations which is so important.

Banlaw team members recognise RU OK? day. It’s hard to stay connected with colleagues spread all over the world, socially distanced, and in and out of lockdowns. Why not ask the people you connect with; are they really OK? Genuine support can make a huge difference. We need to Ask, Listen, Encourage, and check in with each other more than just one day a year. Banlaw is glad to support such an excellent charity.
