Strong unions are built by strong leaders who understand the industries they represent because they’ve worked in them, stood alongside their workmates and experienced the challenges firsthand. The Queensland District is entering an exciting new chapter, with Brodie Brunker taking on the role of District Secretary and Logan Muller becoming Queensland’s first female District Vice President.
At a time when workers are facing significant challenges, including attacks on independent worker voices in Queensland’s mine safety framework, experienced and committed leadership has never been more important.
More than ever, workers need strong leaders who understand their industries, their workplaces and the challenges they face every day. One of the most significant fights we’re facing right now is the stripping away of independent worker voices from Queensland’s mine safety framework.
The changes to Resources Safety and Health Queensland, including the removal of the independent Commissioner and the exclusion of experienced union representatives from key advisory bodies such as the Coal Mining Safety and Health Advisory Committee, should concern every worker.
Those independent voices exist for a reason.
They bring practical, on-the-ground experience to the table and ensure workers have a say in the decisions that directly affect their health and safety. These challenges facing our industry demand experienced leadership that won’t back away from defending workers’ rights and workplace safety.
As Brodie and Logan step into their new roles, I look forward to working alongside them as part of our strong leadership team, continuing to fight for our members, defend the gains we’ve worked so hard to achieve and build an even stronger Queensland District.
As a Union, we’ll continue standing up for workers’ rights, protecting mine health and safety, and making sure Queensland workers have the safe workplaces they deserve.

MEET YOUR NEW OFFICIALS
Logan Muller
Logan brings industry experience and a strong commitment to representing workers into her new role as Queensland District Vice President.
A third-generation coal miner, Logan joined Dawson Mine as an operator in 2018 and quickly became an active union representative, making history as the first female Lodge Executive member for Moura Lodge. She later became Queensland’s first female Central Councillor before once again making history as the Queensland District’s first female Vice President.

Brodie Brunker
After serving as Queensland District Vice President, Brodie was elected Queensland District Secretary. The appointment follows years of representing members at every level of the Union. Throughout his career, he has built a reputation as someone passionate about improving conditions, protecting workers’ rights and strengthening the Union for future generations.
Working alongside officials, delegates and members across Queensland, Brodie will help lead industrial campaigns, represent members on major workplace issues, ensure the Queensland District meets its governance and reporting obligations, and continue building a strong, democratic Union as Queensland’s mine safety framework undergoes significant change.
