Morgan Engineering have gone all out to support Movember this year, hosting an event to encourage conversations around health and wellbeing as well as fundraising for the charity.

On Thursday November 21, more than 250 people came together at Morgan Engineering for an event to help kickstart conversations around Movember, a charity that raises awareness of men’s health.

Jeremy Brett, General Manager at Morgan Engineering said the overarching goal of the event was to bring attention to men’s health, and in particular, mental health.

“Everybody knows somebody that’s gone through some sort of mental health issue, or the worst case scenario, when someone has taken their life through suicide,” said Jeremy.

“The statistics on suicide are shocking. It is the leading cause of death for males aged between 15 and 45 and it is preventable.

“We decided to host this event as a way to promote conversations around the mental health issues that men face, whilst also giving back to the community and recognising our employees.”

The event was live broadcast by Power FM, with Jeremy, Matthew Morgan, Matthew Pickering and Lahnee Mckenna from Morgan Engineering speaking on air. Junior Borrett, a passionate advocate for mental health, also spoke to attendees and on the radio.

“Junior shared his lived experiences with mental health issues, and he also talked about ‘the seven rules of life’ which he uses to stay positive and focus on what matters.

“These rules are very impactful, so impactful we had someone call our office after hearing him speak on the radio asking us if we could send them a copy of the rules.

“While we hope that everyone on the day took away something positive from the event, even if it was just that one person who was listening that we made a difference for then we’ve done something good.”

Morgan Engineering did more than good with its fundraising efforts. The initial target of $2000 was exceeded, with $2600 raised for the Movember charity. Matthew Morgan said it was all thanks to the support they received.

“We have overwhelming gratitude to our sponsors, partners and everybody who got involved.

“Pit Patrol, Allweld, Sutton Tools, BJ’s Workwear Singleton and Thornton, Corner Takeaway, Roberts Meat, Bowers, Iscar, Sandvik, Bakers Delight Singleton and Precision Oxycut all came onboard as sponsors.

“We had the Singleton Men’s Shed bringing along a display of a steam driven boat, and they also sold pickles to raise money for the Singleton Cancer Foundation.

“Singleton Classic Motorcycle Club cooked and organised the BBQ to feed everyone and there was a lot of excitement among the attendees when they rolled in on their vintage bikes.

“Everyone came together and did such as fantastic job of sharing the message of Movember which is so important for mental health.”
