Four Upper Hunter students have been successful in receiving MACH Energy Mount Pleasant Operations 2026 Rural Community Scholarships. The scholarships are aimed at students who come from the local area and are studying health, teaching or engineering.
The scholarships give MACH Energy the opportunity to give back to the local community and help set it up for the future. The scholarship for health and the other for education provide career pathways in services that are very much needed in the Upper Hunter community.
The two engineering scholarships support pathways in the local mining industry. All four give rural students the opportunity to grow their careers while supporting and contributing to their local community.
General Manager of Operations, Michael Redman said in the selection process, students from the Upper Hunter region are given preference.
“Communities like ours are screaming out for teachers, nurses and doctors. How do we invest in those professions and people who are going to practice their profession in Muswellbrook, Scone and Aberdeen for long periods of time?
“The best way is to support those local students who are studying those degrees so they are more likely to come back to the region and practice their profession locally.
“For us the key thing is that we want to operate in the Upper Hunter and we understand our responsibility in investing in the strength and resilience of the region. One of the ways we can do that is supporting the young people who are the future of rural communities like ours,” Mick said.
The scholarships provide $15,000 a year to students who have finished the first year of their chosen degree. Students have to meet certain criteria and if so receive that payment each year until the end of their studies.
“When you think about cost of living pressures, this circa $300 a week scholarship benefit will make a huge difference to these worthy recipients,” Mick added.
