The former Moranbah Community Centre has officially reopened as the Isaac Events Centre, following a $15.6 million redevelopment that aims to breathe new life into the long-standing venue.

The upgraded facility builds on more than 50 years of history in Moranbah, having first opened as the town’s original place of worship before becoming a well-used community space. Over the decades, it has hosted countless weddings, conferences, trade fairs and social events, cementing its role in the town’s development.

Now, the Isaac Events Centre is set to play a broader role across the region. The redevelopment delivers a new layout and modern interiors designed to support a wide range of uses, from local celebrations to major industry and training events.

Funded through the Queensland Government’s Resources Community Infrastructure Fund (RCIF), the project received $8 million in state funding, with the remaining investment supported by participating mining industry stakeholders and Isaac Regional Council.

The RCIF is a voluntary partnership between the Queensland Government, participating mineral resources companies, the Queensland Resources Council and its members, and local governments. The Isaac Events Centre project was one of several selected to support the liveability and resilience of mining towns.

Hundreds turned out to the community open day, offering locals a chance to tour the facility, reflect on its past, and see what it now offers for future use.

The Isaac region, which includes Moranbah, sits in the Bowen Basin and is one of Queensland’s key resource-producing areas. Alongside mining, the region is seeing increased investment in renewable energy and ongoing strength in agriculture, all of which require reliable infrastructure for workforce development and community growth.

Assistant Minister for Primary Industry Development, Water and Western Queensland Sean Dillion said the Isaac region is Queensland’s resources powerhouse, so it’s only fitting that the Bowen Basin communities have a centre that supports not only its industries but also its communities.

“The fund assists with the construction of community infrastructure, including new infrastructure, or the upgrade, extension, or replacement of existing infrastructure,” he added.

The opening of the Isaac Events Centre marks a significant milestone for Moranbah and the wider Isaac region. It not only acknowledges the town’s proud history but delivers a facility equipped to support its future, as a place where locals come together and where regional industries connect and grow.

Isaac Regional Council Mayor Kelly Vea Vea said the Centre is poised to become one of our region’s premier destinations for social, business and community gatherings.

“By upgrading the Moranbah Community Centre and renaming it the Isaac Events Centre, we’ve created a better space for the Isaac region’s communities and industries to enjoy.

“This redevelopment ensures the centre remains a vibrant space where tradition and progress converge, creating memorable experiences for generations to come.”
