Jai and Xavier Timmermans grew up immersed in the exhilarating world of motorsport, with parents Sarah and Jake passing down their love of the sport to their sons.

“From a young age, the boys were drawn to motorsport,” said Sarah.

“For Xav’s 4th birthday, we bought him a CRF50 while holidaying on the Sunshine Coast. Jai, though just two and a half, was equally thrilled. Their eyes lit up, and that moment opened the world of dirt biking for them.”

Jai, now a seasoned competitor, has several notable achievements.

“When Jai was 10, he dominated the northern Motocross rounds, leading us to venture further south for tougher competition,” said Jake.

“On a stock KX65, Jai podiumed 3rd overall in the MPE Central Qld Series and won an Enduro Series in Townsville and Cairns. This year, he’s leading the 2024 MPE Central Qld Series and gaining invaluable experience in the Sunshine State Series.”

Xavier is recovering from a wrist injury, but Sarah said he has shown remarkable resilience and is quickly getting back into the thick of it.

“Xav has bounced back well. He’s focused on beating his times and himself in each race, aiming for the top 5 in the MPE Central Qld Event in Blackwater.”

Both boys are dedicated to the sport, undertaking rigorous training.

“We get them to the gym 2-3 times a week and participate in local club days and ride days,” said Jake.

“We’re also working with other families to get the local motocross track up and running so we can have safer training for everyone.”

While Sarah and Jake could not be prouder of their sons, supporting their racing careers comes with challenges and they are grateful for the community support they receive.

“Racing all over Qld is costly,” Sarah admitted.

“Each race demands new tyres, and sometimes gear, along with fuel and oils. A race weekend can cost over $1,000. However, the racing community is incredibly supportive, and we’ve made lasting friendships.

“InMotion Suspension from Mackay has been amazing, helping Jai with his bike. We also have a family who assist us when work commitments prevent us from attending races.”

As for the future, Sarah said both the boys have big aspirations.

“Xav aims to compete in the Qld titles next year and place in the top 5 in the upcoming MPE Central Qld round.

“Jai hopes secure 1st in the MPE Central Qld round in July and compete in his first Supercross event in Brisbane in October.

“Representing our region means a lot to the family. It showcases the talent from small mining towns, and hopefully inspires other kids to follow their dreams and work hard,” said Sarah.

To help the boys achieve their dreams, the family is seeking sponsorship.

“Fuel for travel and bikes is a significant cost. Any support, whether financial or in-kind, would be greatly appreciated. Sponsors will have their logos printed on gear and bikes and be promoted on our social media accounts,” said Jake.

“Sponsorship not only provides financial support, but also helps athletes like Jai and Xavier access the resources they need to compete on the world stage,” added Sarah.

The Timmermans boys are gearing up for a big future in motorsport and can’t do it without support. If you can sponsor them or know of someone who can, reach out to Sarah at sarahhodgetts@bigpond.com
