Titans @ The Coalface

From the Central Queensland coalfields to Las Vegas, the Titans of Coal have once again flown the flag for mining communities on the world stage, returning home with two World Championship titles and a story that goes well beyond rugby league.

What started as a way to bring people together through rugby league has grown into something much bigger, with the Titans of Coal once again showing what mining communities can achieve.

Titan IND CEO and Titans of Coal founder Troy Sawdy said the latest campaign was about far more than what happened on the scoreboard.

“From Central Queensland mines to the world stage, this group showed what can happen when you bring good people together around a shared purpose,” Troy said.

“Yes, the results were something to be proud of, but what stood out most was the way people connected, supported each other and bought into what Titans of Coal is really about.

“We brought together around 60 people, with many meeting for the first time, and within a matter of days they had built trust, team culture and a genuine sense of mateship. That says a lot about the kind of people we have in our industry.”

The Titans of Coal Men’s Premier team secured its second straight World Championship with a commanding 24-6 Grand Final win over United, while the Men’s Community team also went through undefeated and claimed its title with a 30-14 win over Coogee Randwick Wombats.

The tournament also marked the international debut of the Titans of Coal Women’s team, which finished with three wins from six matches across two demanding days of competition.

For Troy, the success across all three squads reflected the depth of the program and the support behind it.

“Our Premier team going back-to-back as World Champions is a huge achievement, and to see the Community team also go through undefeated shows the strength right across the group,” he said.

“But I was just as proud of the women’s team. For them to step onto that stage for the first time and compete the way they did shows where this can go in the future.

“This is not just about one team. It is about building something people want to be part of.”

With another successful campaign behind them, Troy said the focus was already turning to what comes next, including a possible third straight title for the Premier side, back-to-back success for the Community team and continued growth in the women’s program.

“The standard has been set now and there is already excitement about where this can go next.

“But the bigger picture is always what matters most. It is more than a team. It is a reflection of the people and communities behind it.”
