Hunter Valley Operations (HVO) has backed the Singleton PCYC Book Fair once again, providing a community grant to keep entry free for everyone and help fund vital youth programs.
From 24-26 July at the Singleton Showground Pavilion thousands of bargain books were on offer, with proceeds ensuring the PCYC can continue delivering low-cost or no-cost activities in sport, education, leadership and crime prevention for more than 650 young members.
“The Singleton PCYC Book Fair has become a vital community event, raising funds that allow us to offer affordable programs and foster a lifelong love of reading among our youth,” said David Andrews, Club Manager at Singleton PCYC.
Since taking over the event in 2022, the PCYC has seen attendance top 2,000 visitors in a single year, making the fair both a key fundraiser and a chance to spark young imaginations.
For this year’s event, the PCYC hosted writing workshops and guest-author readings in partnership with nearby schools. Marketing, venue hire, catering and author fees were all covered by HVO’s grant, as well as some in-kind help during set up.
“Our ongoing support of the Book Fair reflects HVO’s commitment to building local capacity and creating positive social outcomes in Singleton and beyond,” said Nic McLaughlin, Environment and Community Officer at HVO.
“By investing in literacy and community connection, we’re helping young people develop skills and confidence that last a lifetime.”
Dating back to 2019, HVO’s partnership with PCYC has consistently targeted capacity building and local needs. HVO’s financial assistance between 2022 and 2024 has laid the foundation for the Book Fair’s growth into one of Singleton’s most anticipated community gatherings.
Beyond fundraising, the event strengthens ties between PCYC, NSW Police, the ADF and service groups like Lions and Rotary, demonstrating how collaborative effort can transform lives and enrich the social fabric of the Upper Hunter Valley.
