Upper Hunter Mining Dialogue @ The Coalface

The Upper Hunter Mining Dialogue has released its Summer 2025–2026 Newsletter, highlighting another year of community engagement, data-driven reporting and collaboration across the Upper Hunter.

The newsletter features insights from a Mine Land Reuse Field Day at BHP Mt Arthur Coal, where community, industry and government representatives explored rehabilitation, mine closure planning and future land-use opportunities. It also wraps up the 2025 School Mine Tours program, which saw more than 500 local students and 80 educators visit Upper Hunter mine sites to learn about modern mining, rehabilitation and career pathways.

Readers will also find the latest 2024 Water Accounting results, updates on regional transition initiatives, and a save-the-date for the 2026 Upper Hunter Community Forum.

Building on these engagement initiatives, the Dialogue continued its outreach in 2025 with the introduction of a webinar program delivering two well-attended sessions focused on air quality monitoring and mine rehabilitation – both identified as priority focus areas.

The first webinar for 2026 will be held on Tuesday, March 3 with Associate Professor Jessica Reeves sharing her research and learnings from regions that have transitioned from mining to other sectors. There will be an opportunity to ask questions to the presenters and a recording of the webinar will be uploaded on the Dialogue website after the session.

The full newsletter and all webinar recordings are available at: miningdialogue.com.au
