Thanks to the support of Bulga Coal Mine, a group of locals from Bulga are busy crafting for cancer patients.

The Bulga Crafters are a social group from the small community of Bulga who are proving that sometimes small things can have a big impact.

Led by Helen Upward, the volunteers meet every Tuesday at Bulga Clubhouse where they dedicate their time to making items for the Singleton Cancer Council to give out to people suffering from cancer.

“All the volunteers are Bulga residents and we have all been affected by cancer in some form. Making these items is a way for us to help. We’ve so far made over 200 items including bags, pillows and bandanas. There’s always going to be a need for these items, so we will keep going as long as we have materials and volunteers.” Helen said.

The project has been running for over a year and supported by a grant from Bulga Coal. Ralph Northey, Bulga Coal Environment and Community Manager said they were proud to support this small but significant project. “These types of local projects we see as invaluable, we especially like the added value of bringing the community together,” Ralph said.

Glen Parsons, Cancer Council Community Programs Coordinator presented the Bulga Crafters with a certificate of appreciation for the work they have done. “It’s great that cancer patients can have access to all these items for free. For someone going through a very difficult time in their life, it is one less thing for them to have to worry about. We are very appreciative to the volunteers for providing us with all these items.” Glen said.

You can also help by donating fabrics which can be dropped off at the Cancer Council’s Singleton office or to the Bulga Clubhouse on a Tuesday.
