Our mining communities are resilient, no matter what is thrown at us we come together and get through it, just like the Clermont community came together to support each other through the floods earlier this year.
Glencore Australia contributed $15,000 to ClermontCONNECT to support local groups and businesses who assisted in the recovery effort after the floods left the region with a massive clean-up.
ClermontCONNECT is an organisation that drives initiatives to enhance health, education and community wellbeing by partnering with like-minded organisations.
The organisation was asked to act as a conduit to distribute the funding from Glencore to other groups who played important roles during and after the event, including the Clermont State Emergency Service (SES), the Clermont Bowls Club and GB Helicopters.
“Our resilient community rolled up their sleeves, mopped up the mess and got on with it,” said a ClermontCONNECT spokesperson.
“The Clermont SES provided crucial on the ground support to the local community.
“GB Helicopters assisted with evacuations, property checks and delivery of essential supplies to isolated residents. The Clermont Bowls Club became a central coordination point, hosting the Isaac Local Disaster Coordination Centre and providing space for Clermont Community Housing and Other Service Inc.”
Craig Strudwick, Glencore Coal Social Performance Manager, said they were pleased to be able to assist.
“We were pleased to provide $15,000 to ClermontCONNECT to help flood recovery efforts. The donation was part of a broader $100,000 contribution to local recovery initiatives, with funding distributed between Clermont CWA, Clermont Men’s Shed, and Clermont Community Housing and Other Services.
“In challenging times, organisations like these play an important role in helping people access practical support and stay connected to the services they need,” he said.
Glencore Coal has an ongoing partnership with ClermontCONNECT with is supporting a project focussed on getting more doctors to the region.
“We’re also proud of our ongoing partnership with Clermont CONNECT, which supports a $400,000 project focused on the revitalisation of the Clermont Doctors surgery practice, as well as the development of Seniors Living and the Clermont Hub.
“Our partnership reflects a shared commitment to investing in initiatives that strengthen essential services and help support the resilience of the Clermont community,” Craig said.
