PCYC @ The Coalface

The Singleton PCYC is a huge part of the local community and each year @ The Coalface supports one of their most popular events… the Halloween Disco!

The disco started in 2017 after some parents came to PCYC Singleton Club President David Andrews and asked if the Club was doing anything for Halloween.

“When I was young Halloween wasn’t really a thing, but these days it seems to be growing bigger each year. Some parents approached us who weren’t really keen on the idea of their kids walking around the streets knocking on doors.

“At the time we weren’t doing anything but then we thought why don’t we bring back the Blue Light Discos and make it Halloween themed, so we did!”

The disco is FREE for any children under 18 wanting to attend, there’s a DJ, games and prizes for the best costume.

“It’s great fun. We have kids who we see at the PCYC a couple of times a week and we don’t recognise them at the disco their costumes are so good! Kids of all ages are welcome, we usually get a lot of primary school aged children – younger kids come too and their parents just sit on the sideline while they have their fun,” said David.

“Coalface has been on board since the first event which has been terrific. We had about 110 kids the first year, it dropped off over the pandemic, and we had nearly 60 last year.”

This year the Singleton PCYC celebrated 60 years of providing youth with a safe space to go and create meaningful connections and read their full potential through sport, recreation and life-changing youth programs.

The Club has more than 1,200 members.

“I feel quite privileged to be here as the Captain of this boat,” said David.

“The official opening of the Club was on September 13, 1965, and we have been pointing young people in the right direction in life ever since, developing their skills, character and leadership through our partnership with NSW Police.

“It would be wrong to talk about the PCYC just in terms of the bricks and mortar. It’s the people who have helped build this club over the years that deserve the celebration.”
