This month the Complete Parts and @ The Coalface $500 Community Gift goes towards the Hunter Valley Animal Facility and Rehoming Centre, an organisation committed to helping animals in our community.

The team at Hunter Valley Animal Facility and Rehoming Centre (HVAFARC) combines more than 15 years of knowledge, commitment and passion for rescuing and rehoming animals.

The HVAFARC currently has more than 70 dogs and cats waiting for their forever home, a situation board member Jen Barbour said is both rewarding and heartbreaking, because while the animals are alive, they don’t have homes.

“We had a fairly good success rate up until a few months ago, but with people getting back to normal, things have slowed – we’ve gone from overwhelming homing to overwhelming requests,” Jen said.

“Our operation turned two in January. We wanted to make a difference in the Hunter and concentrated on the number of unwanted littered animals from many places in the region.

“We’re caring for animals from four weeks’ old to four years with most animals coming from private homes and some from pound.

“If they think they can be rehomed, RSPCA hands them over to us.”

The centre said the biggest message was that animals were considered for life – go to adoption, rather than breeders. When looking for your next family companion, support the rehabilitation and rehoming of abandoned companion animals.

There are many ways to help HVAFARC and support their work. From volunteer opportunities, to purchasing items from their online gift shop, to supporting their community and fundraising events.

And, of course, you can adopt a pet from HVAFARC and help give an animal a forever home. The not-for-profit organisation asks people for $650 for a puppy and $500 for an adult which covers desexing, microchipping and vaccination. Cats can be rehomed for $250.

The centre runs a very active promotion and fundraising program, so go to for all the information. You can also find more information at
