Pink Out 4 Cancer, a Moranbah-based not-for-profit founded in 2024 by Sharon Easdale and Belinda Mullins, has added a new family-friendly event to its growing calendar.
Following the success of their inaugural Golf Day last August, the group recognised the need for something that welcomed children and parents. The result was Family Fun 4 A Cause, an afternoon designed to bring the community together for relaxed activities while raising funds for cancer support.
Families enjoyed burgers, sausages, sweet treats, a jumping castle, sticker stencil painting, games, a lolly stand and even a petting zoo. While numbers were modest, organisers say the potential for growth is strong.
Sharon Easdale, Treasurer of Pink Out 4 Cancer, said the day worked on many levels.
“The success of the event was made possible by a handful of dedicated volunteers who worked quietly behind the scenes to support every detail.”
The community threw its support behind the initiative. Worklocker sponsored burgers and merchandise games, Fusion Cleaning donated the petting zoo animals, Moranbah Arts Centre supplied fencing for the jumping castle, Isaac Regional Council provided portable fencing, and local transport company Need a Ride offered assistance. The Bowls Club, led by Vice President Jamie Mullins, hosted the event with volunteers from both the club and Pink Out 4 Cancer helping set up and run the afternoon.
The bowls club was more than just a venue. Events like Family Fun 4 A Cause are vital in creating social connection, particularly for older residents who can feel isolated. They also promote bowls to new audiences and help strengthen community ties across generations.
For Pink Out 4 Cancer, fundraising is only part of the story. As Sharon explained, events like these create a place for families to relax, connect and celebrate community spirit.
“Ultimately, they are about more than just dollars raised. They’re about creating lasting connections, supporting well-being, and celebrating the spirit of community.”
Looking ahead, the group is already preparing for its next major event, the Extravaganza, which will be led by newly elected President Kimberly Daniels. Kimberly became involved after attending the first Golf Day in 2024, and in 2025 she was voted in to lead the organisation.
“Kim wanted to get involved in our cause from day one, and we’re excited to see her take the reins,” Sharon said.
With a dedicated team and growing community backing, Pink Out 4 Cancer looks set to continue building events that make a difference both on and off the fundraising tally.
