Malabar Resources was approved to start construction of their underground mine at Muswellbrook in 2020 and since then has contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars to the local community.
Malabar believes in engaging with the community they’re a part of. They value community feedback, and are committed to continuous, open, constructive dialogue with all their stakeholders.
“By actively engaging with our community, we aim to encourage transparency and collaboration, ensuring our efforts align with the needs and aspirations of those around us,” said Malabar Community Officer Teagan Rutter.
Malabar supports a diverse range of local groups in the Upper Hunter.
Malabar has contributed over $600,000 in donations to date across a diverse range of innovative projects including sporting events, school fundraisers, school swimming programs, cultural awareness camps, support for residential aged care, support for local chamber of commerce events and support for wildlife conservation.
“We know that we must co-exist with the local community and other local industries. We value community feedback and incorporate this into the development of our operations,” said Teagan.
One of the many programs Malabar supports is Healthy Harold.
Healthy Harold has been around for 45 years, offering interactive engaging sessions at schools that promote physical, social, and emotional wellbeing among children and young adults.
Malabar recently sponsored the Healthy Harold program at Muswellbrook Public School which enabled 440 students to participate. The students enjoyed a range of hands-on activities and educational lessons all designed to foster a healthier lifestyle.
“We also provided each student with a Malabar water bottle to encourage the habit of staying hydrated as part of a healthy routine. Supporting initiatives like Healthy Harold reflects Malabar’s commitment to making a positive impact in the communities we serve, particularly in supporting the growth and development of the next generation.
“Every child deserves a healthy education,” Teagan added.
Among the other programs Malabar has supported this year was partnering with disability service provider Witmore, contributing $3,000 worth of new tools to enhance their workshop.
The initiative is all about empowering individuals with disabilities in the Singleton region, providing them with valuable skills and meaningful employment.
“Witmore’s vibrant workshop and Riverside Kiosk are making a real difference in the community, and Malabar were thrilled to be a part of their incredible journey,” Teagan said.
Also this year, Malabar has contributed to and supported Roohaven Wildlife Rescue, Upper Hunter Homeless, Lifeline Hunter, Ronald McDonald House Newcastle and many more great organisations and groups.
