Smashing their initial goal of raising $20,000 for charities in the 2021-22 financial year, AGL’s Maintenance teams at Liddell and Bayswater have raised over $75,000 for a range of important causes and organisations over the past 12 months.

AGL’s Bayswater and Liddell workforce run fundraising drives every year to support a charitable organisation, this year setting a goal to run an event and raise money for a different charity every single month.

A year down the track, AGL teams have raised over $78,000 for multiple charities with AGL contributing $12,000 of this total through fundraising page match giving – hitting their original $20,000 goal out of the park.

The change of structure this year was made to help more organisations and more people throughout the year, with each team/workshop participating choosing a charity close to their hearts to fundraise for. Over the past 12 months, their workforces have raised much needed funds for causes and charities including Dementia Research, Bears of Hope, Hunter Melanoma Foundation, Black Dog Institute, Where there’s a Will, Ronald McDonald House (Northern Chapter Tamworth to Newcastle) and Dog Rescue Newcastle.

During the month of April, the Bayswater Units workforce chose to raise funds for Dog Rescue Newcastle after team members spent a volunteer day at the rescue’s halfway house and new shelter at Fullerton Cove. Through a ‘Hot Dogs for Dogs Day’ event for staff and fundraising throughout the month, they managed to raise a whopping $7,520 for the organisation.

Bayswater and Liddell General Manager Len McLachlan said it’s been fantastic to see AGL employees and onsite contractors committed to supporting and raising funds for local charities and organisations. “This not only helps these organisations, but it’s also great for our site and builds teamwork and morale as people come together to support a common interest,” said Len.

“Over the past 12 months, I have seen an excitement and momentum build from an idea one team had, to spread across the site and involve most employees and contractors willingly sharing in this initiative.

“Our people volunteer their time and are always willing and generously support our site fundraising activities.”

“The ‘Hot Dogs for Dogs Day’ raising money for Dog Rescue Newcastle is just the latest example.”

It’s a fantastic achievement by AGL’s Bayswater and Liddell workforce. AGL are committed to supporting their local community and this year’s fundraising effort is something for every member of the team to be proud of. “We work, live and are part of these communities,” said Len.

“Our employees recognise that the organisations we raise funds for need their energy, time and donations to be able to help others and this always makes us want to give back.”
