On Thursday July 11, Malabar Resources’ Maxwell Underground Mine welcomed staff, contractors and local community groups to come together to acknowledge the rich history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as part of NAIDOC celebrations.
Highlights of the day included a traditional smoking ceremony, captivating story sharing, and performances which showcased rich Indigenous cultural heritage. The ceremony was a poignant reminder of the deep spiritual connection to the land and the enduring traditions of the Indigenous people.
There was plenty of food on offer and great opportunities to have a yarn and reflect upon this year’s NAIDOC week theme, Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud & Proud.
Attendees at the event included Muswellbrook Mayor Steve Reynolds, Wanaruah Local Aboriginal Land Council, members from Maxwell’s Community Consultative Committee, Jacob Ellis and the traditional dancers from Waagan Galga, Uncle Ritchie Lawton from Budbudda Dreaming, and Steve Fordham Managing Director from Blackrock and the Second Chance for Change Program.
Malabar Resources were grateful to all who attended and contributed to a memorable and meaningful celebration. Together with the local community Malabar will continue to celebrate diversity to build strong and inclusive connections.
