Men’s Health Month is celebrated every June and it’s an opportunity not only to check in on your mates but check your health as well. It’s about taking care of your physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.

The team at Thiess are big champions of Men’s Health Month and this June welcomed Talk2mebro to the Mount Pleasant Operation in Muswellbrook to reiterate their support for all the men on site.

“Our NSW sites have stepped up to the plate and knocked the blue ball out of the park, in the name of raising stronger awareness leading up to this very important health initiative,” said a Thiess spokesperson.

A Liebherr mining excavator is operating on site with a blue bucket supporting charity Talk2mebro that offers support, programs and seminars around mental health.

The bucket also has the number 9 on it, to remind the entire workforce, not just men, to ask the difficult questions because nine people die from suicide each and every day. The #9 also coincides with Thiess’ 9th 9600 excavator.

Talkt2mebro’s mission is to help reduce the number of Australians who die from suicide to zero through early intervention. They hope that through their workshops, keynote sessions, immersive experiences, team-building activities and more that they will be able to make a lasting impact on the people they interact with.

Co-founder of Talktomebro Luke Lord went to site to chat with the crews about taking a moment to listen and watch out for changes in their friends and colleagues.

“Luke spoke candidly on a personal level about the importance of helping to reduce the staggering suicide statistics that Australia currently faces – nine suicides a day, nine too many.”

Down the road, Mt Arthur South now has a big blue bucket with the Men’s Health Awareness Month logo emblazoned on the RD4844 tray.

“The tray symbolises our care for the wellbeing of our male workforce and will encourage open conversions, help to reduce stigma and promote support.”
