Are you ready for an Easter adventure like no other? Pack your bags and hop on board, because we’re heading to the land of Uluru, Kata Tjuta, Alice Springs, and Tennant Creek. Warning: before you travel, be sure to grab your face nets – you will need them to combat the onslaught of desert flies!
First stop, Uluru (Ayers Rock). This massive sandstone monolith is a sight to behold, and not just because of its size (although, let’s be real, that’s pretty impressive). No, the real draw of Uluru is the way it changes color throughout the day. In the morning, it’s a warm red-orange, but as the sun sets, it transforms into a deep, rich purple. It’s like watching a giant mood ring in action. But be warned, Uluru is a sacred site to the local Anangu people, so make sure to respect the rock and stick to designated walking paths.
Next up, Kata Tjuta (The Olgas). These dome-shaped rock formations are just as impressive as Uluru and offer a completely different kind of adventure. Take a hike through the Valley of the Winds and you’ll feel like you’re in a real-life game of “Where’s Waldo,” trying to spot the different animals and plants that call Kata Tjuta home. And the best part? There’s a surprising amount of shade in the valley, so you won’t have to worry about getting a sunburn. But, if you do – don’t worry, you can buy a “I got sunburnt at Kata Tjuta” T-shirt at the gift shop as a memento.
If you have the chance to travel by car, then a detour to Devil’s Marbles is a definite must. The perfect spot to take a break on the journey.
After all that hiking, you’ll definitely need a break, and what better place to rest than Alice Springs. This little outback town has all the amenities you need, including air conditioning (trust me, you’ll appreciate it).
Take a stroll through the streets and you’ll find a surprising number of art galleries, coffee shops, and even a brewery. Plus, if you’re feeling adventurous, you can take a hot air balloon ride over the desert. Other special attractions to check out are ANZAC Hill, the Central Australia Aviation Museum and the Ghan Railway and Kenworth Truck Museums.
Finally, we reach Tennant Creek. This small mining town is where the outback meets the bush and it’s a real hidden gem. Take a guided tour of its mining history or go for a walk in the bushland. And of course, there’s the night sky. The stars in Tennant Creek are something else. It’s like someone took a giant slingshot and just started flinging stars into the sky. Truly breathtaking. Plus, if you’re lucky you might spot a meteor or two. And if you’re really lucky, you might even spot Easter Bunny hopping by!
One of the great experiences of staying at the larger Tourist Parks is the free entertainment. A great way to finish the day with a couple of cold beverages, kicking back and listening to live music.
