Resources Wide @ The Coalface

The future success of the Queensland resources sector relies on industry attracting the best minds and problem solvers from the widest possible talent pool.

This challenge is a critical juncture with an additional 26,800 employees across 107 new projects needed by 2029 to meet the forecast production for coal and other resources in Australia.

In 2024, the Queensland Resources Council (QRC), with funding from the Queensland Government, developed a suite of tools and resources to support resources companies in Queensland to attract and retain the best talent from the widest pool of applicants.

Resources WIDE is an initiative that has been developed by QRC and the Queensland Government to challenge traditional recruitment programs in the resources industry.

It is designed to support HR specialists and site leaders to take practical steps toward building a more diverse, inclusive and future-ready workforce by improving the attraction and retention of people from underrepresented groups including veterans, neurodiverse people, women and Indigenous.

Research suggests diverse teams bring broader perspectives, fuel innovation and are better equipped to solve complex problems.

Resources WIDE provides the coal industry with more than 70 research backed tools and resources to develop or mature talent programs.

From job ad guides and onboarding templates to inclusive policy examples, cultural awareness tips and case studies from other Queensland mining and energy businesses – the content is designed to provide a starting point for those needing support, as well as practical advice for mature organisations looking to get the latest benchmarks in diversity and inclusion.

Whether you’re a small contractor or a large operator, Resources WIDE will have the tools to suit any DEI needs.

This project is proudly supported and funded by the Queensland Government. Explore the free tools and take action to power up your workforce at: resourceswide.com.au
