A project that started in 2022 is now complete, with the Boggabri Pony Club proudly showing off a new multi-purpose community hall with the support of a $35,000 contribution from Whitehaven Coal. The new hall boasts accessible toilets and an upgraded road and entrance to ensure safety for riders and visitors when entering the grounds.

Speaking on behalf of the Pony Club, President Barry Thomson expressed his gratitude.

“We are extremely appreciative of the financial contribution Whitehaven provided to assist with the completion of our multi-purpose community hall.

“This facility will benefit not just our club members but will also serve as a valuable resource for the entire community to utilise and enjoy.”

Established in 1951, the Pony Club is dedicated to promoting the holistic development of young people across the region, helping to foster physical and mental wellbeing and instill values of sportsmanship and responsibility.

Members have the chance to learn valuable skills and become proficient in various aspects of horsemanship, including riding techniques, horse care, and stable management. Through hands-on instruction and guidance, the club’s young members learn the importance of responsibility and compassion in the care of animals.

In addition to its diverse range of activities and programs, the club serves as a vibrant hub for building friendships and fostering community connections. The Club actively engages with surrounding clubs, welcoming families from across the region to participate in events and activities.

This focus on bringing the community together and supporting young people made the Pony Club an obvious candidate for Whitehaven’s community investment program.

Whitehaven’s Manager, Community Investments and Partnerships, Jacki Scott, was recently invited to tour the new facility to see the positive impact of the company’s investment first hand.

“We are delighted that Whitehaven’s contribution has helped to complete the construction of a new multi-purpose hall.

“This donation underscores our commitment to the communities in which we operate and reflects our dedication to fostering growth and development in the region.”

The Pony Club is looking forward to utlising the new venue at upcoming events including monthly rally days, camps, and Trophy Day, and sharing the venue with the community for weddings, reunions, parties, and more.

“We recognise the invaluable role that organisations like the Boggabri Pony Club play in the community,” Jacki said.

“With its dedication to promoting physical activity, mental wellbeing and camaraderie, the Pony Club will continue to make a positive impact on the lives of young people and their families.”
