There is something surreal about leaving the forest floor behind and stepping out among the treetops. At Tamborine Mountain, the Rainforest Skywalk takes you on a journey through one of Queensland’s most beautiful rainforests in a way that feels both safe and thrilling.
The walk begins on the forest floor, winding through lush greenery and the sounds of birdlife echoing from every direction. Soon the track climbs to a series of steel bridges that lead you high into the canopy. From here the perspective shifts entirely. Instead of looking up at towering trees, you find yourself eye to eye with them, watching the light filter through leaves while the forest hums below.
The highlight is the cantilever bridge that stretches 40 metres out across the valley and hovers 30 metres above the creek. Standing on it, the rainforest seems to fall away beneath your feet, and for a moment you feel suspended in another world.
It is both peaceful and exhilarating, the kind of place where you linger just to soak in the view.
The entire walk is about 1.5 kilometres and can be taken at your own pace. Along the way there are signs that share stories of the rainforest and its wildlife, from strangler figs wrapping themselves around host trees to the colourful bird species that call the mountain home.

Back at the Eco Gallery, there are displays on the local environment and a café with outdoor seating that overlooks the trees.
When I visited, a local artist was painting, her work filling the space alongside other pieces by Tamborine artists. Watching her bring a rainforest scene to life while surrounded by the very landscape she was capturing felt like the perfect end to the walk.
A coffee in hand and art all around made it easy to sit for a while and take it all in.
Practical tips: The Skywalk is about an hour’s drive from Brisbane or the Gold Coast, making it an easy day trip. Allow at least an hour for the walk itself, but longer if you want to explore the gallery and café. Comfortable walking shoes are a must, and while the bridges are safe and sturdy, those with a fear of heights should be prepared for a little adrenaline.
Tamborine Mountain itself is worth setting aside time for, with wineries, craft shops and other walking tracks nearby. But the Skywalk is the standout, offering a perspective that few places can match.
