Tell us about the business.
SCIG are a locally owned business which has significantly grown from our early days servicing equipment, to now pioneers in the importing and manufacturing of machinery for the mining, agriculture and civil industries. We have doubled in size over the last few years but still run the business from Mackay.
How long have you been doing business?
This is our 20th year of operation.
How many people work for the business?
Approximately 250 employees spread throughout Queensland.
Describe a typical day at ‘The office’.
HR comes first with recruitment still the number one issue facing us, as it is most other businesses across Australia.
What’s the best thing about the business?
Our diversity and the fact that we remain proudly 100% Queensland and Australian owned.
What are the biggest challenges facing your business?
The struggle to recruit good people and the cost of doing business in Australia which has exploded.
What is the biggest opportunity for your business right now?
Our Ag business is going from strength to strength, and we have launched a new green range of lighting towers for the mining market that are outclassing anything else available in the world.
What is the business most proud of?
Our heritage and our growth against the odds.

We are passionate about giving back to the community, donating to many local fundraisers and children’s charities.

Chris Agius, our Ryco brand leader. Chris always gets the job done and despite having a long-term back issue he works harder than anyone else in the workshop. He’s also just a genuine nice guy.
