Radiant River Fare

Situated on the banks of the iconic Hunter River in Raymond Terrace, The Junction Inn Hotel wows you from the moment you step through their doors.

Established in 1836 this beautiful pub is one of the oldest in Australia, and although filled with rich history, inside you’ll find all the enjoyment and comfort of the present day.

Windows surround the terrace providing panoramic views of the river whilst you enjoy your meal and natural light pours in creating a warm and pleasant space throughout. In what has been an extremely chilly winter so far, The Junction Inn Hotel also boasts a fireplace to provide a welcome respite from the cold.

As the second longest continuously licenced hotels in Australia, you’ll be sure to hear a nostalgic story or two about from locals and staff members. If modern luxuries are more your thing, the bar has an excellent range of beverages including a special list of cocktails created by their expert mixologists, and their diversified menu will have you wanting to try every single dish. Of course, as with any great Aussie pub, Keno, TAB and a great games room are on offer for the lucky punters of the group.

We kicked off our Friday lunch with half a dozen Kilpatrick Oysters, followed by the Grilled Chicken Stack with bacon, avocado and hollandaise sauce served with chips and veg; and from the specials board a Ribs and Rump Stone Grill that left us blown away.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the oysters were pulled straight from the ocean and served to our table. They were as fresh as they come and absolutely mouth-watering. My sister, who normally isn’t the biggest oyster fan, was equally impressed quickly downing her share with a smile.

We couldn’t fault our mains and were especially impressed with the stone grill – ribs on one side, chips on the other, and in the centre a searing hot stone to cook a large steak of premium beef to our liking. Every bit of this dish was full of flavour, and the experience of grilling our own steak on a hot stone added a bit of fun to the mix.

The chicken served with the Grilled Stack was succulent and melted in our mouths. Topped with hollandaise sauce and avocado, the combination made for a hearty, delightful meal.

It’s clear this establishment puts thought and passion into everything they do, from the freshest ingredients and huge menu range to the contemporary design of their dining areas.

The Junction Inn Hotel claims to have ‘the finest hotel bistro in Port Stephens for lunch or dinner’ and we have to agree.

The bistro is open 7 days a week from 11.30am – 2pm for lunch and 5.30pm – 8.30pm for dinner. Head to The Junction Inn Hotel for some of the best pub dining the Hunter Valley has to offer.
