Glencore’s Mangoola CHPP marked off another year of operating without having a single Lost Time Injury (LTI) on January 24, 2022, taking their team to a total of 11 years LTI free.
Those who work in the industry will understand what a remarkable feat this milestone is. Milestones aside, Mangoola CHPP have completed intensive operations and maintenance works often in a challenging environment and it’s a credit to the entire CHPP team and contract partners who come through the gates each day.
“I cannot speak highly enough of these individuals; they should be very proud to have created such an excellent safety culture,” said Mangoola Acting CHPP Manager, Matthew Cox.
“It is extremely pleasing knowing you are going to work in a place that truly believes in leaving work and returning home, every shift, in the same manner they arrived, both mentally and physically.”
As a business Glencore put a huge effort into being visible to their workforce but more importantly work hard to inspire and embrace autonomy in their people.
“By empowering teams, they are comfortable to not only make personal decisions to keep themselves safe but hold others accountable to support decisions and actions that keep those around them safe too,” said Matthew.
Mangoola Open Cut Operations Manager, Jacob Hundertmark, said: “Eleven years LTI free really is a remarkable achievement for everyone associated with the Mangoola CHPP.”
“Results like this aren’t achievable unless every team member has a shared vision of success and an unrelenting drive to achieve that vision each day.
“There is a lot to be learned from the safety culture generated by the CHPP team who have been part of this eleven year journey.”
As we head into 2022, @ The Coalface are proud to share the fantastic safety efforts of Mangoola’s CHPP team. Although proud of what they have achieved, Matthew says they will strive to continue their journey of success.
“The ultimate success will come from the influence and support we can offer other departments to achieve their own LTI free journey,” Matthew proudly concluded.
