Competitors and spectators enjoyed all the action at the annual Polocrosse Carnival, thanks to the Emerald Polocrosse Club, volunteers and financial assistance from Yarrabee Coal Mine.

The mine was pleased to be the naming rights sponsor, donating $3,500 to help ensure the event was a success and raised much-needed funds for the Emerald Polocrosse Club.

The event welcomed 16 senior teams and 6 juniors from areas across Queensland including Tara, Tambo, Roma, Bowen, Townsville and Tansey, with around 200 people flocking through the gates.

Polocrosse is a fast-paced, exciting team sport and all competitors put on a great show of advanced riding skills and overall horsemanship. The carnival was a celebration of community, competition and country life.

Bryan Wells, President of the Emerald Polocrosse Club was delighted with the success of the event.

“The carnival always unites the Emerald community and brings competitors and spectators together to enjoy a day of fantastic and exciting horse sport.

“Given where our club is geographically located, we are the central location for most families who enjoy the sport and want to compete in a carnival.

“Therefore, we always want to host a fun family-friendly event that offers strong competition and plenty of social and community interaction.

“The highlight of the event weekend was watching the juniors, who are the future of the sport, trot up and down the field with their massive smiles.

“Thanks to Yarrabee Coal for their sponsorship and support and we look forward to next year’s carnival,” said Bryan.

The Emerald Polocrosse Club began in 1998. It is a small club with eight members and year-on-year it is committed to hosting a great polocrosse carnival. It relies on volunteers and community donations, and support is always welcomed.

Yarrabee Coal Operations Manager Mike Priestly said they were pleased to support Emerald Polocrosse Club.

“The Polocrosse Carnival provided a significant tourism boost with many visitors coming to Emerald and enjoying our region, it also offered a weekend of thrilling action and community engagement.

“Well done to all the competitors who participated,” said Mike.
