In a boost for student transport across Moranbah, Pembroke Resources, owner of the Olive Downs Complex, has invested over $240,000 into a brand-new 32-seater school bus and donated it to the local area.

The keys were handed over by Pembroke Resources CEO Barry Tudor, following ongoing collaboration with the Isaac Regional Council to address transport needs for students engaged in both academic and extracurricular activities across Moranbah and the wider region.

The new bus will serve students from Moranbah State High School, Moranbah State School, and Moranbah East State School, enabling easier access to regional excursions, sporting events, and educational opportunities throughout the Isaac region and beyond.

“This initiative is a reflection of Pembroke Resources’ ongoing commitment to the communities surrounding the Olive Downs Complex,” said Barry.

“We see ourselves as part of this region’s future, and this bus is a tangible demonstration of how we’re working in partnership with the community to deliver lasting benefits.”

Greg Bacon, Executive General Manager of Operations, said the donation aligns with Pembroke’s broader efforts to ensure that local students are not limited by distance or isolation.

“The new bus will give students in Moranbah greater access to learning and growth opportunities, both inside and outside the Isaac Region. It’s also about equity – making sure every student has a fair chance to engage in enriching experiences no matter where they live,” he said.

The formal handover took place at a community celebration attended by more than 600 people, including students, teachers, families, local representatives and Isaac Regional Council with special attendance from the Deputy Mayor.

Isaac Regional Council Deputy Mayor Jane Pickels said the initiative was the result of collaboration between Council, community and industry.

“This project came about because Council saw an opportunity to work with industry on something meaningful that would deliver long-term community benefit.

“This bus represents more than just transport. It is a symbol of what is possible when we come together around shared values and put young people at the centre of the conversation.”

Deputy Mayor Pickels said the idea was sparked through early conversations between Mayor Kelly Vea Vea and Pembroke Resources, focused on social licence and the importance of lasting, practical contributions from industry.

“Council raised what genuine partnership looks like and how companies can support families in our region. Pembroke has shown what that looks like in action, and we are seeing the outcome of that collaboration.

“This bus will open the door to more opportunities for local students. It means access to camps, excursions, music programs, sports and more. It is a win for the schools and a win for the whole community. We are incredibly grateful to Pembroke for stepping up and delivering something that will make a real and lasting difference.”

The school bus donation is part of a broader package of community support initiatives delivered by Pembroke Resources in the region. Recent contributions have included the installation of a high-functioning all-abilities playground at Moranbah State School, valued at $85,000, and the replacement of sporting equipment at a local primary school.

“As our operations continue to grow, so too does our investment in the people and communities of the Isaac Region. We’re proud to play a role in supporting the next generation,” said Barry.
