Tired of the same old boring day-to-day routine? Golf not offering any thrills beyond getting an eagle? Is the most exciting part of your day making the light come on in the fridge? Well, look no further than Pokolbin’s own Hunter Adventure Centre for a dose of adrenaline and fun!

Located in Pokolbin, the Hunter Adventure Centre offers outdoor games and adventure, such as Segway tours, archery, axe throwing, laser clay shooting, as well as group activities and corporate challenges. There’s even a giant human foosball!

It is the perfect day out for couples, small groups or families, although for obvious safety reasons there are age limits for some activities. Children need to be at least 11 to ride the Segways and try archery, and 12 to 13 for laser shooting and axe throwing.

It is also a great place to host a party or your next corporate team-building exercise. Because nothing says team building like letting off steam by throwing axes into wood targets or shooting innocent clay pigeons! Don’t worry, we won’t tell anyone if you picture your boss’s face on the target!

Offering a halt to daily boredom since 2010, the venue has spent the past sixteen years providing the perfect location for fun. It is also ideal for team-building events, with multiple challenge options and even catering or lunch available at on-site venue at 4 Pines, where you can wine and dine on tasty cuisine and a host of local wines.

We booked a package to try axe throwing, archery and laser clay shooting, leaving the Segway tour for next time.

We started with axe throwing in a setup a bit like a batting cage, complete with wire fencing you quickly learn to appreciate. With help from the centre’s charming team, we hurled axes at a wooden target like Vikings. I’m happy to boast about my four bullseyes, and less happy to mention how many times I had to retrieve the axe from the ground.

Next was laser clay shooting. The laser guns, once double-barrel shotguns, have been modified to use microchips instead of gunpowder and batteries instead of bullets. For those whose experience with guns is limited to action movies and video games, what you may not realise is that they still carry a surprising amount of weight, even without the kickback. The small plastic discs have laser sensors, and you practise first by shooting a stationary target on a stick, which is much easier to hit than when they are flying through the air.

Finally, we tried archery. I will admit I’m not Robin Hood, but I certainly had a lot of fun hitting the target. Surprisingly, it is an easy activity to learn.

So, if you’re looking for fun, adventure or somewhere to host your next corporate team-building exercise, Hunter Adventure Centre is well worth a visit. Whether you are keen to test your aim, unleash your inner Viking or just do something completely different, it makes for a memorable day out – particularly if you sample the wine before picking up the axe!
