For the second year in a row Hughesy from A Plus Contracting & Poly Welding has taken top spot on the fundraising leaderboard raising a massive $19,542 for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service in this year’s Leaders Leap event.
Andrew Hughes, A Plus Contracting & Poly Welding Director has faced his fear of heights yet again this year at the 2021 Leader’s Leap Fundraising event, also raising the top amount for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service.
After two postponements due to Covid, the Leader’s Leap was finally able to take place on November 19.
Alongside another 18 Hunter Valley leaders, Andrew stepped off the roof and abseiled down the face of McDonald Jones Stadium, Newcastle. Like many of the leaders who took the leap, Andrew faced his fear of heights to raise money for an organisation close to his heart.
“Although I am always nervous before I take that first step off the top, I felt humbled to be given the opportunity to face my fears for an organisation that works so hard for our community 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.”
Andrew took the opportunity to reflect on the vital work of the Westpac Rescue Helicopter crew, who regularly winch people to safety from the bush, mine sites, ocean and hard to access locations.
“Their support saves local lives every day, and so summoning the courage to abseil off the stadium for the Service was a great feeling.”
A total of $73,133 was raised through the Leader’s Leap Challenge with 539 donations across the board.
Andrew again commended the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service Volunteers who were helpful on the day making it a fun experience for all leaders involved.
“Thank you to all the companies and individuals who donated, to again make me the highest Leader’s Leap contributor for the second year running, I couldn’t have done it without your support,” said Andrew.
“A special thank you to our biggest contributors, Farrelly Construction Services, Booth Contracting, CPR Plant Repairs, Kelly’s Financial Group, Pitcher Partners Newcastle & Hunter, Club Maitland City, DNA Property Group and ATL Transport.”
Want to get involved? Andrew said you don’t need to be a business leader to take up this challenge, anyone can do it, it’s all about having a bit of fun on the day and raising money for a great community service.
