The NSW Mining Health, Safety, Environment & Community (HSEC) Conference is back in August and this year promises a return of all the things you love most about this event, as well as a few new exciting additions.
The 2024 NSW Mining HSEC Conference is the place for industry leaders, professionals and decision-makers to come together and discuss critical issues facing the mining sector.
With a steadfast commitment to leadership, professional development, and collaboration, this year’s conference will continue to showcase industry leaders, reflect on past experiences and look to the future with positivity. It will explore innovative strategies and best practices aimed at enhancing operational safety, promoting workforce well-being, minimising impacts on the environment and fostering community engagement.
This year’s sensational line up of keynote speakers includes Shane Fitzsimmons. As Commissioner of the NSW Rural Fire Service and later leading Resilience NSW, Shane helped to steer the state though bushfire emergencies, floods and recovery from the pandemic and he will address the conference on those difficult times and lessons learned.
Jana Pittman was the first woman to represent Australia at both the summer and winter Olympics and will take delegates through what she has learned about teamwork and leadership in her varied career.
Another firm favourite is forensic engineer Sean Brady, well known to the sector and a highly regarded expert in safety and systems. Dr Brady speaks regularly at events and on podcasts about failure, human behaviour, data analytics and engineering disasters.
Organisational psychologist Dr Amantha Imber is all about helping people do their best work. In a highly interactive keynote, Dr Amantha Imber will guide delegates through the latest scientific insights on how to spark innovation.
Also speaking will be Robert Skeffington, covering topics such as how to get the right messages to people in the right channels, while also considering the intersection of activism in your community engagement programs and the discourse around major projects.
Fox Sports presenter Jessica Yates will be back again as the conference host for the third year, keeping everyone entertained and engaged. She will also be joined by TV presenter Kate Haberfield as the professional session host in the Environment and Community streams.
After a major success in 2023, The Pitch returns this year so you can see some of the best emerging talent in our industry talk about their achievements and how they see the future. In an energetic and uplifting session, young mining professionals share how they’re building meaningful careers in mining and ‘pitch’ the conference on what we should do to keep mining responsibly now and in the future.
A new event this year not to be missed is the Future Leaders Connect: Professional Development Workshop held on Sunday evening. This free event is for anyone under 30 in the NSW mining industry, whether you’re attending the conference or from the local region. Connect with like-minded people in your age group and take part in a workshop facilitated by Suzy Miller on personal branding and communication to improve the way you connect and contribute at work and build your career.
Also new this year is Women in Leadership. Co-hosted by the NSW Minerals Council and WIMnet NSW, this function on Tuesday evening is a social and networking event open to all mining industry professionals from the local region. It will foster conversations about leadership, diversity and inclusion through a panel discussion and Q&A.
A highlight of the conference is the NSW Mining HSEC Awards Dinner on Monday evening where we celebrate those in the NSW mining industry who are championing health and safety, environmental excellence and community engagement. Comedian Dave Thornton headlines the entertainment, Sydney’s Top Shelf Live will provide the music, and host Jessica Yates will announce the winners in four award categories.
Jam packed with workshops, conference sessions, industry updates and plenty of networking opportunities across 4 days, this year’s HSEC Conference promises to be the best yet. Don’t miss out on being a part of the NSW mining industry’s most important annual event.
The 2024 HSEC Conference will be held from Sunday 4 – Wednesday 7 August at Rydges Resort in the Hunter Valley. Tickets are on sale now. https://www.nswminingconference.com.au/ |
