The Miners Memorial Day Service is a time to pause and honour the memory of all those who have lost their lives working in Queensland mines.
The Miners Memorial Day Service is run by Resources Safety and Health Queensland (RSHQ) on 19 September each year, the anniversary of the state’s worst coal mining disaster at Mount Mulligan where 75 miners died in 1921.
1,510 people have died at Queensland mine sites.
The service honours their lives, and importantly, reminds us that it is everyone’s responsibility to ensure that all miners return home to their families at the end of every shift.
This year the service is being held at Kianga Memorial Hall in Moura, marking the 50-year anniversary of Moura’s Kianga No. 1 mine disaster when thirteen miners tragically lost their lives on 20 September 1975.
| The Miners Memorial Day Service will be live streamed on RSHQ’s Facebook page for those who can’t attend in person. Tickets to the Miners Memorial Day Service are free and are available through Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/miners-memorial-day-service-2025-tickets-1502176683899 |
